How does Okonkwo work to achieve greatness? How is greatness defined by the Ibo culture? Compare him to Western heroes whom you and your community are familiar with?

Okonkwo achieves greatness by using his wrestling skills to obtain many wives and yams. Unlike his father who didnt have anything. The Ibo define greatness by your possesions and wives. primarily yams in barns. I can compare them to european kings that had many possesions and wives.

Okonkwo achieves his greatness by ulitmately being the polar opposite of his father. He works hard, isn't lazy in the slightest, and doesn't give up. Greatness in the Ibo culture is defined by how many wives you have, and how many riches you have to your name. I can't think of any specific people, but he's similar to many people who started from nothing and built themselves up to a place of great power, wealthiness, or fame.

Okonkwo achieves greatness using his hatred for his father as motavation. His father was lazy, poor and cared about other's feelings. Okonkwo works very hard, has three wives and many yams and and shows little sympathy for others-or atleast his own children. He sees lazyness in one of his songs and has made it his personal goal to correct this trait with more work and beatings. Greatness in Ibo is defined by wealth. The more wives and yams, the better. You could compare Okonkwo to any of those in our culture that was fed up with thier parents and has successfully made something better of themselves. Some of the celebrities in our culture have made it big because of thier persistance in following thier dreams and not giving up because they didn't want to turn out like thier parents. Take the rapper Eminem for example, he was angry at his mother because the poor environment of his childhood and followed his dreams and became rich and famous.

Okonkwo gains greatness by skills that he obtains. He gains as many yams and wives as he can to show that he is indeed great. In their culture greatness is often showed by wrestling or by how many people you killed. Though it is often shown by wealth in yams. This is just like our values here in the west. We often show our wealth by how much we own, and if our possessions are great. Oprah Winfrey is an example of this. Who grew up in a poor atmosphere but has achieved great wealth and is now very rich.

Okonkwo achieves his greatness by doing alot of hard work the hard work that he does in my opinion is driven by the fear of his fathers lazyness he fears being lazy like his father so much that he changes his personality so that he doesnt show compassion toward other people because he thinks its a sign of weakness. The Ibo culture defines greatness as how hard you work your number of wifes and yams. The reason it is greatness is because that is what the Ibo culture puts value on. I would compare Okonkwo with any rich entrepreneur like Bill Gates that
started off as a normal guy who worked hard, had some luck, and became rich and famous.

Okonkwo achieves greatness by working hard. Since he was a little boy, he started working. Okonkwo did not have the start in life that young men usually had. He didn't inherit a barn from his father, but in spite of this, he didn't give up and he worked hard. He earned his first seed yams and after several years, he was a wealthy farmer, had 2 barns full of yams and 3 wifes. Among the people in the Ibo culture, a man was judged according to his worth and personal achievements. They also defined greatness by wealth and titles in the clan. I don't know any western heroes, but I can compare Okonkwo to people I know that when they didn't had much, they worked hard and achieved their goals.

Okonkwo achieves greatness by beating one of the best wrestlers. Which his name was the cat. I compare okonkow to Rocky. Because he became the best wrestler. Just like rocky became the best boxer. And plus Rocky was just some average guy, just like Okonkwo.

As the book tells us Okonkwo recives honor and respect by being one of the greates wrestlers his village has seen, by doing this he is able to obtane many yams, titles, and wives. the ibo use a mans strength, in war wrestling and governing his famly to determine gretness. If you are strong you will have the importang things in life, much like every other civilization.

Okonkwo wrestled and thats how he got his fame, then he used his wrestling skills to become a fierce warrior and recieve many titles and wives. greatness in Ibo culture i measured by how many yams and wives you have. Indians in the west also had many wives and thats how they showed their great triumphs in battle.

Okonkwo uses his great skill of wrestling to get to his claim to fame. he uses this against his father becuase his father always asks people for money or other things and never gives it back. i can compare them to the english kings that have alot of possesions and have many wifes because of these possesions.

Okonkwo achieves greatness by his wrestling skills! He uses his skills to receive yams and so far his three wives! He achieves so much because his father was lazy and owed people so much and he despises his father for that reason so she does everything in his power to not be like him what so ever! The Ibo tribe believes that greatness is how many wives you have and what you have to offer as in your possesions! I compare them to the early Native Americans how they thought of greatness with how many horses they had, or how many people they scalped! ( Certain Tribes)

Okwonkwo has achieved his greatness in a few ways. It was started with him wrestling another guy that was "undefeatable". he is known throughout 9 villages because of that. he also has a large farm with many yams and 3 wives.
I dont know anyone to compare him to but he reminds me of the people that start from nothing at all and work themselves up to fame and fortune.

Okonkwo works to achieve greatness by wrestling.wrestling a cat that only on man has beat before..Hes young and eats with kings and adults. His greatness is defined by the Ibo culture by how many wives he has 3,and what he did in his life that gave him greatness.Comparing him to heroes whom i am familiar with would be....like UFC FIghter chuck L. if he haddent faught like he does or didnt work out like he does he woul.dnt have the name he out out for him like he does now.

Okonkwo achieves his greatness by wrestling. He is the best wrestler in his village because once he defeated the greatest wresteler. Now everyone respects him. He never wants to grow up to be like his father, lazy and always in debt, so he makes sure he is successful. The Ibo culture defines greatess by the amount of possesions you have. For example how many wives you have, or how many yams you have. If you have a lot of both, you are rich. Okonkwo is a hero in his village, like Denzel Washington is a hero to the movie industry. In this day in age, if you have a lot of nice cars, you are said to be rich, like Denzel. He has nice cars, he must be rich. Denzel is a modern day hero, Okonkwo is a hero back in his day.

Okonkwo dad was a failure and was very lazy. Okonkwo whats to be better than his dad so he wrestels and gets as many yams and wives as he can. He wants to be better than everyone else. The Ibo people define greatness by how many yams and wives you have and if you wrestle. Its the same here because some people didnt have anything and know they have a lot.

Okonkwo archives his greatness by using his wrestling to obtain many wives and also by working in his yam field never giving up and eventually buying him self a barn and have lots of children i would have to compare him to settlers of the orgon trail ho w they started with nothing and tamed this wild land and got there riches from it

okonkwo achieves greatness by wrestling and he's also been undefeated for seven years. And he beat the black cat who was known for not being on he's back. And if i can compare him to someone it would be john cena because they both never lost. They both never back down or give up. Unlike his father who didnt have anything. Greatness in Ibo is defined by wealth. Okonkwo works very hard, has three wives and many yams and and shows little sympathy for others-or at least his own children.

Okonkwo achieves greatness by working to be everything his father was not. He was active and a very hard worker, and it showed in his wrestling matches. In the Ibo world your greatness is measured in wives and possessions. Okonkwo is most comparable to the kings of Western Europe, in the way that he has many wives and possessions. He is also quite comparable to Napoleon who began his rise as a short coat, or soldier, and finished leading his country into great battles.

I believed Okonkwo achieves his greatness by using is wrestling skills to defeat Amalinze the Cat in a wrestling contest, obtaining his many wives, and the many yams crops. Greatness is defined by your reputation in wrestling and by the amount of wives you have. I would compare Okonkwo to Rocky Balboa because they both started as average people with fathers that did the same thing and they both became famous and rich.

As we read this great book it tells us that Okonkwo achieves is greatness and all his fame by using us cool wrestling skills to keep all the wives that he has claimed his, along with they yams. It seems like his goal is to be nothing like his father was and to be everything he wasnt. It reminds me of many cultures and people. Like the culture that we are living in now...we know of so many famous people who went from being your average person that you would see in the streets and some being really poor and having not the greatest memories growing up, are now loved and looked up to my so many people around the world! Like Mia Hamm for example, she was just a "normal" child growing up and had a love for a game. She followed her dreams in playing soccer and being the greatest. She never gave up! Now she is one of the greatest female athleates ever known!

Okonkwo achieves greatness by working really hard, his motivation is to be the absolute opposite of his father and uses his hatred for his father to work for everything he has. The Ibo consider greatness by having titles and many wives. Okonkwo is like many of our heroes because they also have worked very hard for what they have, because okonkwo started with nothing and now has a lot.

Okonkwo achieves his popularity and his greatness through his wrestling career and through the number of wives, and title he has. The Ibo cultures shows who has the most greatness in their culture. I would compare Okonkwo to Bill Gates. The reason being because, Bill Gates, just like Okonkwo, started out with nothing. And now he owns one of the biggest computer software companies in the world.

Okonkwo achevies his greatness bye wrestling and farming yams to make money to be able to buy more wives. He is the total opposite of his father who was a lazy man who never did anything with his life.Greatness in the Ibo culture is defined by how many wives you have, how much yams you farm, and how much money you have. I dont think you can really compare the Ibo culture to any other people. They are a wild and crude culture in my oppinion.

Okonkwo achieves his greatness by being a stud at wrestling. He also has the will to not be like his father, lazy and a begger. he uses this negitive energy against his father to will his power to do great things as a wrestler. he is very embarrased by his father so when he see's people that are like that he dispises of them.

Okonkwo acheives greatness from teh hatred and disgrace ofhis father... he hates the fact that his father amounted to nothing and acheived no titles or anything. he wanted to be better than that... his father was lazy and he ahted it he wants to be successful... its just like in todays life peopel who go from rags to riches.... they want to be better than what they were i htink that is how most people think..... always take one step forward instead of two steps back...

Okonkwo Acheives greatness by being a mighty warrior. He is a brutal father and husband. The Ibo define greatness by what you do as a warrior and who you are as a husband how rich you are in what not. He is crazy when it comes to him acting like his father i believe he uses that to strive himself to be a better warrior. His father was lazy and didn't do anything.

Okonkwo achieved his greatness by being the greatest wrestler in on the land. Oh and you can't forget about all the wives he has. The way they define greatness is by how many wives and how rich you are.I can compare him to someone in a movie. The movie was Hustle and Flow. He began with nothing and ended up with almost everything, But he ended up going to jail at the end. That sucks, But he had everything right before he went to jail. That is my Comment.

Ibo culture defines greatness by how the numbers yams you farm, how many wives you have, and your money.

Okonkwo achieves greatness by working hard, never giving up, basically being EVERYTHING his father isn't.

He is kind of living the American Dream, building himself from nothing, and achieving greatness.

They achieve greatness by winning wrestling matches and by ow many wives you have. Greatness is defined by how manly you are and that your not afraid to kill. He compares to Rocky they both had to beat the best to be the best and their not afraid of hard work.

Okonkwo achieves greatness as a young boy by being a famous wrestler. He has three titles, three wives and many yams. In the Ibo culture greatness for men is acheieved by how many wives you have, how many yams you have and how many titles you have. Okonkwo was a very great man. He worked hard and wasn't lazy. Okonkwo's father was lazy and was often referred to as a woman. Okonkwo wanted to be the complete opposite of his fater so he worked even harder to achieve greatness. Many times Oprah has talked about how her childhood was not the best childhood. She grew up poor and as she grew older she made a decison to become a great person and to better her life. Just as Okonkwo made decisons in his life to become a great man.

Greatness to Okonkwo and the Ibo is having many wives and yams. How okonkwo acheives greatness is by using his wrestling skils to get there. I compare to spider man who was once looked at as being a nerdy geek. he uses his superpowers to overcome obsticals and keep his city from crime. So whos the nerdy geek now!

Okonkwo achieves greatness by overthrowing "the cat" a great wrestler who was undefeated for seven years. He becomes the greatest wrestler in all of the nine villages of Umuofia. Also, Okonkwo has many barns full of yams, which are the main food source of the Ibo people. He has three wives because of his wealth, and many children. Okonkwo is also a great warrior, and killed three people in battle. In Ibo culture, greatness is defined by how many barns of yams and wives a person has. Also, great warriors are respected. Heros in western culture are usually men who save other weaker people. But in Ibo culture, a person is great if they kill others and have many wives. Our culture and the Ibo culture are similar in that they both define greatness by wealth. We have money and the Ibo have Cowries, yet the principles are the same.

In the Ibo culture men can achieve greatness in multiple ways. One is by how many titles you have, another is how many wifes, and finally by you're farm. Okonkwo was a great wrestler as well as warrior. He has gets much respect from his other clansman. As a boy he was determined to do great things. He has three wifes and a plentiful yam crop, he is a very successful farmer.
